Giles Smith's Midweek View

Here is Giles Smith's midweek view. Great stuff!

Overall, I thought Sir Alex Ferguson hid his disappointment about Sunday's result pretty well.

Of course, the Manchester United manager has had quite a lot of disappointment to hide of late, so he ought to be getting good at it.

And indeed, in Sunday's post-match performance you really saw the practice he has put in over the last few seasons beginning to pay dividends.

Ignoring the fact that his team had spent 98 percent of the second period unable to get out of their own half and had crawled from the field relieved to come away with a point, Ferguson instead commended his players for not allowing Chelsea to 'disrupt the flow of the game' with fouling.

This was classic, cut out n' keep, post-match Fergie - brilliantly monocular, fabulously combative, and bearing about as much relation to  the reality of matters as Harry Potter's Hogwarts does to your local primary.

You've got to love the little chap, haven't you? Harry Potter, I mean.

Quiz time: which team committed the most fouls on Sunday? I'll give you a clue: it wasn't Chelsea.

Chelsea Launches New Website

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon yesterday unveiled the club’s brand new website, which gives fans a unique interactive online experience. A first in the football industry, visitors can view the entire contents of the site on one page and choose to zoom in and out on pages of their choice.

Chelsea qualifies for Champions League knockout stage!

Chelsea qualified for the Champions League knockout stage despite defeat against Werder Bremen - but have injury concerns over top scorer Didier Drogba.

Bremen now just need a draw in Barcelona in their final group game to go through to the last 16.

Chelsea have qualified as they cannot finish below Bremen in the table because they have the better head-to-head record in the group games between the two sides.

Mourinho plays down Drogba injury concern

Jose Mourinho says Didier Drogba will be fit to face Manchester United despite picking up an ankle injury in Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen.

Setanta Games: Your Club has them!

CFC Vancouver now has access to live games on Setanta.

As you know, Setanta have a lot of Chelsea games this season. Apparently they have first choice of games in North America, so not surprising that they choose Chelsea so often. The downside is that we do not get those games live on cable TV.

The solution? We have bought a Setanta decoder box and we will have live Setanta games at Harvey's house in North Vancouver. We will do it on a donation basis of say $3 to $5 per person per game.

Our first game was the Everton away game. It worked well. The feed is streaming video broadband Internet. The picture quality is acceptable, but not great. No doubt it will get better in time.

If you want a decoder box at home then click on the Setanta side bar for details.

Also, the Frog and Firkin on West Broadway has promised that they will show every Chelsea game that is on Setanta as long as the pub is open. Unfortunately that rules out early morning games but they will repeat them later in the day. Not perfect, but better than not seeing the game.

The Reading Boxing Day game is only on Setanta tape delay at 3:30 p.m. The Frog and Firkin will have the game.

Chelsea v West Ham United

The game is live on Setanta USA. Currently we do not have a live venue, however, the Frog and Firkin on West Broadway in Vancouver will show it at 5:30 on Saturday evening. See you there! But don't tell us the resultWink !
