 1970
Ossie's equaliser against Leeds in the F.A. Cup replay. The game once again entered extra time, but David Webb upset the pattern of the final, much to the delight of all Blues, when he forced the ball over the line from an Ian Hutchinson long throw. It was the first time Chelsea had been in the lead - and that's how it remained!

Under Dutch manager Ruud Gullit, Chelsea took the lead just 43 seconds into the match, with Italian midfielder Roberto Di Matteo receiving the ball and firing it into the goal off the crossbar from 25 yards to record the quickest ever goal in an FA Cup final, breaking Jackie Milburn's 42-year record. Middlesbrough's prolific striker Fabrizio Ravanelli limped off after 21 minutes, further diminishing his side's chances of victory. Late in the first half Gianluca Festa put the ball in the net for Middlesbrough, but the goal was ruled out for offside. In a largely disappointing match, in which Chelsea were generally in control, Chelsea eventually added a second goal seven minutes from full-time with Eddie Newton steering the ball into the net from Gianfranco Zola's clever flick to seal a 2-0 win.

Following a poor quality first half in which few chances were created, the match was brighter in the second, with Chelsea generally having the better of the play. George Weah missed several chances and had a goal disallowed for offside, while Villa's Gareth Southgate headed wide. On 73 minutes, Roberto Di Matteo scored what proved to be the winning goal, capitalising on an error from Villa goalkeeper David James to put the ball in the net from close range

The FA Cup remains the only domestic trophy Chelsea have not won under owner Roman Abramovich and manager Jose Mourinho. They go into Saturday's game in front of 90,000 and a global television audience on their longest winless run in the Mourinho era of five matches. They ended the Premiership season with five draws, interspersed by the loss on penalties to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.

Arsenal 1 - Chelsea 1

A brave second half performance by Chelsea’s 10 men against Arsenal, which showed much character, and promise for next season.

Realistically, it was always going to be difficult to retain the Premiership title given the mid-season major injuries. Congratulations to Man. United. We pushed them hard almost to the end.

We can now look forward to two fresh teams going into the F.A. Cup Final.

From Stamford Bridge to Wembley (via Vancouver) We’ll Keep the Blue Flag Flying High!
