Chelsea have six appeal in Vancouver

Liverpool Vancouver 0 (1) Chelsea Vancouver 6 (0)

Chelsea came back from a first-leg deficit with a vengeance to reclaim the Vancouver Champions League. The final 6-0 scoreline may have flattered the balance of play, but there was no disputing some of the quality of the goals.

It was a tough assignment, facing the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline in game 1 and a rejuvenated group of Scousers with their confidence up. Yet in the first minute, Kevin's cleverly rehearsed (ahem) free kick eluded a crowd of players in the box for Stuart to tuck away and set the aggregate score to 1-0. Game on.

The balance was fine, the standard of play the highest yet in the past six years. Chris crashed a shot against the bar, yet Liverpool had several dangerous breakaways at pace. Lee and Rees marshalled the Blues back line superbly, never ceding ground in a game with occasional silly niggles. Adam pulled the strings in midfield for Liverpool, yet was met with equal sorcery by Chris, Chris (yes two of them) and Stuart, who scored a lovely second, shifting the ball from left to right just inside the box before rifling home.

In the second half, Liverpool pushed their best of a centre-back up front to force the issue, yet that just left holes at in their defence. The Blues surged through. Stuart claimed his deserved hat-trick, before Fabian put the game to bed with a fine angled finish, right to left. A scrambled own goal added gloss to the score (5-0) before Chris put the icing on the cake with solo effort, running from inside his own half past three players before slipping the ball underneath a defiant Liverpool goalie. A champagne moment.

Next year, the Donnelly Group is interested in involving more teams. So if anyone knows supporters groups from Arsenal, Spurs, Man U or City, or even Nottingham Forest, who want a game, please get in touch with Gerry.
